New York Bridal Fashion Week 2019

Fabric stores around the country had to restock on everything bridal this path month thanks to highly anticipated New York Bridal Fashion Week. Although a quick plane ride away, some Miami fabric stores wanted in on the action. Featuring both established and emerging designers, the week consisted of an assortment of gowns and suits for the 2020 spring and summer collections. This season’s selection displayed something for just about everyone — whether you are a bride who prefers coziness over couture or maybe one who yearns to wear a work of art.

Here is a recap of all the trends we loved (from afar) during NY Bridal Fashion Week:

Minimalist:
Meghan Markle surely gave us all a run for our money when she debuted her minimal and streamlined Givenchy wedding gown by Clare Waight Keller, artistic director of the fashion house Givenchy in May of 2018. Since then, brides around the world have opted for clean, crisp, structured gowns – staying true to classic styles and beautifully figure-flattering silhouettes. While some brides opt for a bold, extravagant statement, others prefer low-key sophistication and timeless finishes, focused on construction. Bridal Fashion week gave us just that!

Feminine Touches:
At the opposite end, you have designers like Berta, Theia and Reem Acra who transformed traditional wedding gown silhouettes by adding modern embellishments or varying slits from modest to thigh high. This year’s collections definitively echoed the “more is more” mantra, giving us intricate beading, floral appliqués, and dazzling jewels. As for their main collection, Amsale brought us texture. Draping, hand pleating, embroidery and faux lace – all covered in the traditional white, which Designer, Margo LaFontaine says some brides tend to lean more towards.

Power Suits:
During this era of women’s empowerment, the fashion industry would be remiss to not have a revamp to everything women hold dear. Enter — the new twist on the power suit. With bare legs on the runway, shorts proved to be somewhat of a breath of fresh air to the sometimes hot and stuffy traditional bridal garb. Ines Di Santo’s collection, inspired by a fairy tale dream, featured a bold, long sleeve blazer and shorts ensemble, adorned with laser-cut petals. If you ask us, it is the perfect pair for a low-key Brickell ceremony on a spring day in May. Reem Acra’s Thank You Collection, highlighted a show stopping, leg-baring power suit, ideal for pre-wedding events or a modern wedding celebration.

Alternative colors:
Why stop at rosé all day, when you can have blissful blush tones all night! Although not everyone has the stamina to rock a red wedding dress, we are sure many brides can get behind the beautiful tones of Rose/Blush that glimmered down the runway. Vera Wang’s stunning blush gowns in whimsical styles looked like a gorgeous tall and refreshing glass of rosé wine – a nice change of pace for the unconventional bride who wants to stand out on her wedding day. Reem Acra and Ines Di Santo also featured the popular hue in their collections this season.

Modern Men’s Wear:
As fun as it has been to have a female dominated industry, as most collections are bride focused, this year gave us fabulous collaborations to the typically “no-boys-allowed” event. Designer Reem Acra and men’s wear designer Joseph Abboud, created a selection of custom-tailored pieces for grooms displayed alongside couture gowns at St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City. Think jacquard damask fabrics, scarves, spectacular lapels and sleeves – the designers’ exotic interpretation of wedding fashion perfectly complemented each other to create a uniquely sophisticated collection for modern grooms.
