11 Fall Fabrics and Fashion Must-Haves

Winter is coming, but Fall is here now! The summer is finally over and cooler temperatures prevail! Although the seasons in Miami can be a bit of a foreign concept, we hold our breath for the days that drop below a delicious 65 degrees, where we can wear our fall fabrics, fashion, boots, and coats to our heart’s content. Here we’re rounding up the top Fall fashion trends for 2019 — although some are true fall trends for cooler weather, we’ve also added a couple of “faux” fall trends that can work in any weather.

Fall Fabrics

Statement Jewelry on Fabrics

Statement jewelry is back! And this time it’s exceptionally bold. Whether it be chain links, tassel necklaces or earrings, rhinestone detailing or mismatched metals — anything that adds a little pop of flair to your chunky knit sweaters will definitely be on-trend this season.

Double Duty Fall Fabrics

Double duty fabrics are always fall staples because they can very easily be worn during every season with the help of a few complimentary items. We’re talking eyelet, lace, corduroys, denim, etc. Perhaps you could pair an eyelet dress with a denim jacket and brown booties, or even a fitted blazer and combat boots for an edgier look. You could even try pairing a leather jacket with a flowy, floral maxi dress. Fall doesn’t mean it’s time to pack away all your spring and summer items; it just means that you have to find new ways of repurposing them. For me, that means finding unexpected ways to layer pieces together.

Ponte Pants

Ponte pants are the classier and more structured cousin of leggings. Many of us gravitate towards leggings throughout the colder months, but a thicker Ponte pant, which has the comfort and versatility of leggings with the weight and structure of pants—can also be styled the same way! You can’t experience Fall without at least one cozy cardigan, which can be paired with your favorite skinny jeans, a french-tucked tee and slip-on mules or perhaps a shift dress, dark tights, and booties.

Turtlenecks and Tights

Turtlenecks and tights are the bourbon in spike apple cider — alone apple cider is delicious, but the bourbon takes it to a whole other level. These add ons can take a summer slip dress into the fall just by simply layering them underneath. Throw on a leather jacket and ankle boots for good measure, and you have yourself a whole new look!

Animal Print Fabrics

Animal print fabrics are the perfect neutral for fall! Being both timeless and on-trend, they incorporate neutral tones and pair well with our favorite fall hues (more on those later.) Try a duster-length leopard print cardigan with a black top, skinnies and metallic flats for a sleek, but quintessential fall look. Or if you want something a bit dressier, you can slip on a silky cheetah print skirt with chunky-heeled booties and a bodysuit underneath. If you’re looking for something a little more subtle, a pair of animal print flats can add texture and depth to your fall ensemble.

Athleisure Fabrics

Athleisure, how we love you and sometimes love to hate you! Best-suited for cooler weather, it can also sometimes play double duty for those days that start off freezing and end up sweltering hot. And while we can’t necessarily go apple-picking in this fine part of the country, it is the ideal outfit for the long drive over to Knaus Berry Farm. You’ll definitely need something warm and comfortable to stand in line for three hours — because as Miamians, we know that we all wait to make the trek down there when the weather drops ever so slightly to make it fun to stand in line and wait for the delicious gooeyness that is a sticky bun. For these days, you can try a cozy graphic sweatshirt, a pair of boyfriend jeans and cute sneakers, or stay comfy with an oversized sweater and leggings….to, of course, give yourself some space to consume as many buns as you’d like. The trick is to balance your athleisure pieces with more polished items to maintain a laid-back yet pulled-together vibe.

The biggest trend of fall is, of course, the gorgeous, deep hues that encompass the season! The falling leaves in shades of mustard, burgundy, olive, and chocolate. Pair a burnt orange sweater with dark denim tucked into riding boots and add an ivory scarf to stay cozy and coordinated. For Thanksgiving, try mixing some pattern on pattern (within the same color family) with a floral skirt and polka-dot tie-front top. And if you get lucky and the temps drop — you can add some tights and suede booties to stay warm while still looking chic.

And of course, the cornerstone of every fall wardrobe, and what we dream about when the temperature dips ever so slightly are outerwear! We’ve put together a list of the top 5 most versatile pieces to add to your fall fashion outfits:

Fall Fashion Must-Haves

THE LEATHER JACKET

Nothing can hold a candle to the leather jacket in terms of cool factor. Whether you’re donning the faux or genuine variety, it definitely screams badass without trying too hard. Throwing on this all-weather staple can dress up or even down just about any outfit. Team it with a pair of distressed jeans and a bodysuit for a low-key look, or layer it over a black lace dress for a more dressed-up occasion.

THE CARGO JACKET

I’ll be the first to admit that there’s nothing I love more than a great cargo jacket. Although it can be found in a variety of colors — red, camel, black, navy — it’s the original army green that can a little bit of magic to any outfit. Because it’s a typically lightweight jacket, it can be layered well and styled in a multitude of ways. It’ll pair with a flow dress and pumps, just about as well as a soft tunic and comfy leggings. A trick when styling is to keep your other pieces neutral and allow the bolder-hued jackets to shine.

THE MOTO JACKET

One of the most coveted street-style jackets, no longer exclusive to Harley riding dudes, the moto jacket has the unique ability to turn any outfit into something sleek and chic. We’re especially digging the contrast of a feminine light floral dress paired with a twill moto jacket.

THE BOMBER

A famous piece of outerwear traditionally made of leather, you may recognize the bomber jacket from movies like Top Gun or on TV stars, like Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown. This timeless piece was first worn during the first World War by pilots trying to keep warm in ice-cold cockpits. But during this day and age, it was reinvented for civilians (and fitted for women also) and is offered in a multitude of colors, cuts, and fabrics. Boasting a much less structured hemline gives it a more feminine feel. Teamed up with jeans and booties, or paired along with a frilly dress will add a quick dose of edgy attitude to your outfit.

THE DENIM JACKET

Demin jackets are probably the best use of your “fall wardrobe” budget, as they are one of the most versatile closet staples and a top choice for this season’s love affair with layering. It can be layered over your favorite knit dress (or even a summery dress with tights!). Add booties and a scarf for warmth.
